About us / Introduction to Department of Gerontological Health Care

 

History

The Department of Gerontological Health Care (Four-year university of technology) at the College of Nursing at NTUNHS is established in response to the upcoming of super-aged society and the increasing demands for geriatric care manpower and in line with Taiwan’s national policy and development. The undergraduate program has begun enrolling students since 2016 academic year. Because of our excellent performance, the graduate program was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2021 and established in 2022.

Department Introduction

The Department of Gerontological Health Care advocates the practice of “aging with vitality and aging in place” and aims to nurture our students to become global gerontological healthcare leaders in the gerontological health industry through solid professional geriatric care training and the specially designed three-core tracks of training (i.e., gerontological healthcare, health promotion, and health management). The Department of Gerontological Health Care integrates smart healthcare technology into professional training to broaden students’ horizons and enhance their competency and competitiveness in career development. Our goal is to cultivate students to become “gerontological healthcare talents with humanistic qualities and professional knowledge and skills.

In addition to the four-year undergraduate program, in year 2022 the graduate program is established and has begun to enroll its first graduate students. The goal of graduate program is to cultivate outstanding gerontological healthcare talents with cross-domain innovative knowledge and management skills that contribute to promotion and execution of aging-related policy, health industry development and talent cultivation in Taiwan and worldwide.

Undergraduate Program (Four-year university)

The undergraduate program of the Department of Gerontological Health Care has three major tracks of courses: health promotion, health care, and health management. Through solid training, students will be able to:

◎ Apply professional knowledge and critical thinking to gerontological healthcare;

◎ Demonstrate a caring attitude and ethical literacy;

◎ Demonstrate the ability to communicate and collaborate with the clients and other professions;

◎ Focus on gerontological healthcare issues and build a professional identity;

◎ Demonstrate a conscientious attitude;

◎ Pursue lifelong learning

Graduate Program

The graduate program aims to cultivate cross-domain talents with innovative gerontological/geriatric care and management skills. The two major tracks of training, “the  “gerontological  care and prevention” and “cross-domain gerontological innovation and management” will enable our graduates to:

◎ Apply advanced knowledge and skills to gerontological care;

◎ Demonstrate communication, coordination, and collaboration skills to lead gerontological and geriatric care teams;

◎ Demonstrate cross-domain gerontological management ability;

◎ Practice research and critical thinking in gerontological and geriatric care;

◎ Give full play to value innovation of gerontological and geriatric care
